Piano Regulation, Improve the Touch & Response of Your Piano

PIANO REGULATION

What Is Piano Regulation?

Piano regulation is the adjustment of the mechanical parts of the piano action so that the keys and hammers respond correctly and consistently to the pianist’s touch.

Over time, normal wear and use can cause the action to become uneven. Keys may feel heavy, light, sluggish or inconsistent, notes may repeat poorly, and the piano may become less responsive to play.

Regulation restores the correct relationship between the moving parts of the action, improving the touch, repetition and overall responsiveness of the instrument.

Robert was professionally trained in piano regulation by Derek Downs, Chief Piano Regulator at Knight Pianos. Combined with over 40 years’ professional experience, Robert can assess and regulate both upright and grand piano actions, improving touch, repetition and responsiveness and advising on the adjustments appropriate for each individual instrument.
