Caring for your Piano
One of the best ways to care for your piano is to have it tuned regularly. Keep it away from radiators, direct sunlight, damp walls and sudden changes in temperature or humidity.
If you notice sticking keys, unusual noises, pedal problems or changes in the piano’s tone or touch, contact us for professional advice before a small issue becomes a larger repair.
Temperature and humidity can have a significant effect on a piano. Because a piano contains thousands of wooden, felt and metal components, changes in its environment can affect tuning stability, the action and the overall condition of the instrument.
Try to keep your piano in as stable an environment as possible. Avoid positioning it immediately beside radiators or other strong heat sources, against damp walls, or where it receives prolonged direct sunlight.
Regular tuning is also an important part of caring for your piano. Apart from keeping the instrument sounding its best, regular visits provide an opportunity for developing mechanical problems to be identified before they become more serious.
If your piano has not been tuned for several years, has dropped significantly in pitch, or the keys and action no longer feel even and responsive, it may require more than routine tuning. Robert can assess whether pitch correction, repair or regulation would be appropriate.
For pianos requiring more extensive care, piano servicing & deep cleaning is also available.
If your piano is in tune but its tone has become dull, muffled, uneven or excessively bright, piano voicing may help restore its clarity and tonal balance.
For older pianos requiring more extensive work, piano restoration & reconditioning may allow an instrument to be preserved and brought back into good plain condition.
